New and alternative video codecs
WMV9/VC-1, RealVideo (RV9/RV10) VP6/7, Snow, Theora, Dirac, etc.

Should be changed to:

New and alternative video codecs
WMV9/VC-1, RealVideo, VP6-VP9, Snow, Theora, Dirac, H.265 etc.

IMHO it should rather be one section per codec.

At least H.265 / HEVC and VP9 and VC-1 should get their very own section IMHO.

Good point, the other codecs are old and crappy and hardly anyone uses them, a seperate forum for those would be good.

Me too thinks it's a good idea.
But unless I'm very-wrong, a moderator cannot do that, only the admins (Swede and Doom9) can.

HEVC should get its own forum like MPEG-4 AVC has, since it is a standard and all - assuming it won't for some reason flop which I doubt.

VP8/9 isn't yet nearly as widely used by people (internal usage on youtube doesn't count - youtube staff don't come to discuss and solve their problems to D9). I think there is no hurry to separate it, given that.
Few years down the road, you could very well end up with virtually unused forum section - just look at the state of the current "new and alternative codecs" section - most of the action actually goes on in the threads for ffdshow and quicksync hardware decoding, which don't actually belong here, but landed in the subforum due to historically reasons.
Before HEVC started shaping up (and even now), the actual talk about alternative codecs is :tumbleweed:

Dunno if VC-1 would actually get less or more forum discussion than VP9 and VP8, but imho it also doesn't need its own section. Not today, if it didn't get it all the time up to this point :).

If something, I would ponder a subsection for lossless codecs.

P.S. Snow (and likely Dirac too) don't need to be in the topic at all. Not only they aren't used, they won't be used in the future either...
