View Full Version : Good Quality with 480*something?

As the guide suggests I did a compressability check (I even ran the first pass entirely); but I only get 60% when I lower the resolution to 480 although I'm going for 2 CDs! To get 70% I'd have to lower the resolutione even more! I used the smooth bicubic resize filter.

Can I still get good quality at this resolution? Isn't that resolution close to vhs-quality? What do you think?

More info. What movie are you encoding, how long is it, is it dark, is there a lot of motion? Some movies compress better than others. I counted my lucky stars when I was able to get 480x272 Neutral Bicubic at SPR on a 3 CD rip.

I'm encoding Scarface. The movie is like 2:40h long, very colorful, but also a bit nois. I already tried applying some smoother filters, but I actually don't like them because they make encoding a lot slower and somewhat change the colors; they also make the movie blurrier and you lose some details. I want to have 2 CDs though. Did you lose a lot of details when doing SPR at 480?

TIA.

HI!

Why dont you use bilinear resizing for that noise movie?

Because I heard it's bad (makes things blurry) and therefore I lose details.

Okey if you dont like it go for 3cd but i did Scarface,SPR and Tigerland with bilinear because they compressed really bad

BTW dont you think you lose details with 480*xxx?
I prefer 544*xxx bilinear
