I came across this (http://lists.ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2007-June/031326.html) recently. It sounds like it might be an old patch to add a level of support for VC-1 encoding in ffmpeg. The attachment is missing though. Does anyone know what this was about? And moreover does anyone have a nice pre-compiled binary with the patch applied? :-)
I also saw this (http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2008-September/057815.html) which sounds interesting. Seems like there's lots of interesting stuff on the ffmpeg mailing list

Unfortunately, it seems NOBODY is interested in developing a functional open-sourced VC-1 encoder. And this time at least, I am not "complaining", I'm just stating a (somewhat saddening) fact. The freeware VC-1 DE-coders don't even support interlaced content, to begin with.:scared:

Actually thats no longer accurate, ffmpeg now supports interlaced decoding. Its not bit-exact to the official decoders yet, but there are no visible artifacts at least.
Work is still ongoing.

:thanks: for well-informing the uninformed :stupid:
