View Full Version : I can't tell why one of my movies didn't play back in my PS3

I recently edited together 5 movies by capturing gameplay of each Assassin's Creed game, and editing them into movies. The games were quite long, so these movies averaged about 3 hours each. Here's a link to check them out on youtube if you want. (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMB_lYcuWDU3W4wKB1Z1rze5U0eQrF9VD)

Anyway, I decided I wanted to fit all 5 movies on a BD50 disc. Each movie was 720p, and the original encodes I made were small enough to fit on a single BD50 disc at CRF20. I encoded them using these Blu-ray compliant settings in x264 using megui:

--level 4.1 --bluray-compat --tune film --crf 20.0 --open-gop --b-pyramid none --no-weightb --weightp 0 --slices 4 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --vbv-maxrate 30000 --colorprim bt709 --transfer bt709 --colormatrix bt709 --output "output" "input"

I had used these settings before to encode multiple Blu-rays in the past, both in 720p and 1080p, so I know they work. I authored my disc and burned my BD50 today, and 4/5 of the movies play fine, but the last one doesn't. I'm fairly certain that all 5 were encoded with exactly the same settings, yet the fifth movie doesn't play on my PS3. Plays fine in PowerDVD on my PC, but on my PS3 all I hear is audio. I can tell the chapters work though, because I can hear the audio cutting to the correct chapter points.

The only significant things about the fifth movie is that it had the longest length (251 mins) and the smallest video bitrate (5247kbps), although remember, all were encoded with crf20. The movie with the next highest length is 189 mins, and the movie with the next lowest bitrate is 5462kbps. Both work just fine in the ps3. Could either of these be a factor?

Here is the mediainfo for the m2ts file for the movie that won't play:

I tested burning a BDRE with just this movie on it, had the same problem.

Is it possible this is a PS3 specific bug? I know it worked on my PC's Blu-ray player, but perhaps since that's also a generic media player, maybe it can support files that aren't exactly perfect, using the PC's codecs and stuff? I don't have any other Blu-ray players to test it on atm.

Anybody have any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi!

It may have something to do with the 4hr 11min length of that last movie.

If that proves to be the case, as an experiment, try first creating a 2hr version of the last video (NOT joined to any other video). If it still doesn't work, cut it doiwn to 90 minutes, etc. until you determine the largest (timewise) version that works.

Just tried. Trimmed it to 2 hours and it still didn't work. When I press select, it shows the audio track with the correct codec, channels and bitrate, but the video track shows nothing at all.

EDIT: also tried trimming to 5 mins, and forcing change fps to 24000/1001 in tsmuxer, still doesn't work.
