I haven't installed or used the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack for about 3 years. I just decided to install the latest version today as I got tired of manually installing stuff like LAV, MadVR, etc...

I noticed it didn't have the Real Alternative or QT Lite....am I missing something here? :stupid:

That software is outdated and not needed anymore. It can play everything with open-source codecs such as LAV Filters.

That software is outdated and not needed anymore. It can play everything with open-source codecs such as LAV Filters.

But while they are not needed for general playback, there is still software that requires QuickTime. For example some NLE on windows use QuickTime input/output components and for some formats there is no good opensource or commercial alternative that I can use to pre-process recieved footage before editing. And pre-processing is a pain anyway. Photoshop uses QuickTime for some tasks. There is also encoders that is able to use QuickTime api and QuickTime's aac encoder is always one of the leaders in listening tests. As a user of these editors I have to install QTlite because I hate original QuickTime...
I'd LOVE to see QTlite updated...
