I ripped a movie "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" using MakeMKV into a MKV file. I am able to play that file fine, but now I would like to shrink it. I attempt to import that file into BDRB v0.43.06 and I get an error immediately:
----------------------
[15:53:49] Importing MKV: THE_PERKS_OF_BEING_A_WALLFLOWER_T01
- Collecting audio/video streams from source...
[15:53:50]ERROR: Collecting video file streams. Aborted.

My inspect file looks good:
- Windows Version: 6.1 [7601]
- AVISYNTH Version: [2.5.8.0], Ok
- HAALI Splitter: [1.9.42.1], Ok
- FFDSHOW: [4422], Ok
- WIN7 preferred AVC CODEC: Ok
- WIN7 preferred VC-1 CODEC: Ok
- WIN7 preferred MPEG2 CODEC: Ok
- FFDSHOW VC-1 set to "wmv9", Ok
- FFDSHOW MPEG2 set to "libavcodec": Ok
- FFDSHOW AVC set to "libavcodec": Ok
- BD Rebuilder v0.43.0.6, Ok
- X264: Ok
- AFTEN: Ok
- FAAC: Ok
- MP4BOX: Ok
- WAVI: Ok
- TSMUXER: Ok

I have done it this way in the past and had no issue. Any ideas?

Try remuxing the file with MKVmerge

Thank you, I'll give it a shot! However, I did download the AnyDVD trial and ripped it with that and all seems good so far. But I'd prefer to stay with MakeMKV as long as it's available for free. I'll report back...

It's quite possible MakeMKV did not decrypt the disc properly.

It's quite possible MakeMKV did not decrypt the disc properly.

LakersFan, you should bring this up in the MakeMKV forums to see if the program didn't decrypt it properly. Others might be experiencing the same thing.

This type of feedback would greatly benefit the developer, as well as users like yourself (and me; but I've never had an issue with MakeMKV before).

Maybe provide a sample for jdobbs to look at and test (or others with BDRB)?

I agree, not a bad idea to see if it's a MakeMKV error or something else. However I am at work starting tomorrow for the next three days, so maybe when I get back.

So far, everything is still running good. So I'm fairly confident it was the rip...

Update: I did run my movie ripped with MakeMKV through mkvmerge and the only change I made was the one video track had default set to 'No". Switched that to Yes, remuxed and it imported just fine in BDRB. I'm not sure if that made the difference or not, but it fixed my issue.

There are so many triggers that can be used in creating an MKV that it's really hard to pick out what might cause the import to fail. Personally I trust MKVToolnix software (MKVMerge is a part of it) more than any of the other MKV generators.

Of course MKVToolnix doesn't decrypt, though. For decryption I trust AnyDVD HD more than any others.

Thanks jdobbs. If I have issues again, I'll be sure to use those before reporting it. I used the AnyDVD HD trial and it worked this time, so I'll probably just end up purchasing it.

Have a good one.
