I want to render out a file from Sony Vegas in a lossless form - trouble is When I tried that using the Logarth codec Handbrake wouldn't accept the file.
I wanted to use Handbrake to take the file and then render it again to a smaller size as I hear it gives better quality than if I just use Vegas.

Unless I'm mistaken, Vegas can output to arbitrary formats with VfW, so lagarith and handbrake seem like rather unnecessary middlemen...

Vegas uses proprietary encoders mostly. The internal avc/h264 encoder doesn't offer as many options as using the stand-alone x264 that a lot of front-ends use, like Handbrake.

You could use Debug Mode Framserver instead and then use VirtualDub to encode to h264.
VirtualDub uses x264vfw, which is based on the same builds from http://x264.nl/ that a lot of front-ends use, like Handbrake.

http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/
It's a bit tricky at first but is extremely handy.
Output is RGB24/RGB32/YUY2

Debugmode Framserver vfw won't open in Handbrake, fyi.
But it works perfectly in VirtualDub.

Avi uncompressed will certanly fit here, even though it's a bit fat
