Nero and DVDs

Can someone let me know how to make normal cdrs work as dvds?

I dont care if they're short i just want the cds to work in my dvd player.

How do you mean ? As audio cd's ? (S)VCD ? Something else ? Please provide more details.

I believe he means SVCDs.

There are a lot of nice guides around, maybe somewhere very near... :)

Video cds, or multi channel audio, just a scaled down version of a dvd.

I have two Sony standalone DVD players that will not play most CDRs I have burned even for audio only.

On a board that I would have to dig up, I found a repository of data that people have contributed on exactly what DVD players can read, i.e., CDR, CDRW, DVDR, DVDRW, DVD+RW, VCD, SVCD, etc. From this board I learned that my Sony DVP-S330 will not accept CDRs, but will take CDRWs. Since CDRWs are much more expensive, I kept searching and found that the CDR media made by STI for Circuit City does work in many of the Sony DVD players. I just got my disk pack yesterday, but have not tested that theory yet.

I will try to post some info back here. I guess I will post to the proper forum and note it here. :)

I found out from my past experience that memorex cdrs sold at Best Buy work in almost everything, and work the best.

I think you mean miniDVD, right?

I don't mean those little 3cm DVDs that they have for Gamecube, I mean fiting DVD files on CD(-R[W]). For miniDVD, you can fit about 20min. of DVD-Video and Audio, depending on the quality/languages/menu etc.

Anyway, I tried them on my DVD player, which plays CD-R(W)s perfectly, but they don't work...well. I can get a file to play, but that's it. So, even if your DVD player can play CD-R(W)s, it could be possible that it doesn't play miniDVDs. What you might want to do is go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/ where thay have a whole bunch of information on a whole lot of DVD players. You can look there and see if anyone else has tested CD-R(W)s and/or miniDVDs on your DVD player so that you don't have to go through the hours of trouble to make a miniDVD and find out that they don't work.

If in the event that you CAN play miniDVDs on your DVD player, follow Doom9s miniDVD guides. In Nero, choose UDF/ISO when burning your CD-R(W). I would use a CD-RW first, not only to test, but also because they are genrally more compitable for miniDVDs.

If in the event that you CANNOT play miniDVDs on your DVD player, check your DVD player's compatibility with (S)VCDs so you could have the possibility of maiking those. As always, follow Doom9's guides for (S)VCD.
