Voyager encoding help\suggestions

Hi all,

I'm onto my next encoding project, Star Trek Voyager.

Update, I've got season 1 in ntsc

Megui suggests: tfm(order=-1).tdecimate(hybrid=1)
But some frames still look interlaced

So, I've just started to try out QTGMC
QTGMC( "Slow", SourceMatch=2, Lossless=2, EZKeepGrain=0.4, Sharpness=0.1, ShowSettings=true)
Some suggestions on what settings\presets to try would be appreciated.

I normally use McDegrainSharp for most dvd's.

just don't do it.
get the NTSC sources (which are available, btw).
It will be a PITA to encode the PAL sources.
You'll need to do unablending and frame decimation to 23.976fps using a decent bob-deinterlacer combined with srestore().

Well we do live in the PAL zone.

And there's no way I can double buy the set...

Looks like the NTSC complete series can be bought for $100-125 on eBay (not including shipping to wherever you are). Consider how much your time is worth vs selling your sets second-hand and buying those.

MeGUI is a dumb robot. Just use your eyes. The scroll is 60i, the model shots are 30p, and the interiors are 24p.

If you're going to use QTGMC on this portion of the episode, Trim() the scroll and apply it only to that. Then use TFM for the rest.

Thanks, but that may work for a 2 minute sample. How would I do the full episode?

How would I do this if I didn't use QTGMC?

QTGMC and yadif work on the scrolling text. So how can\do I run two different filters based on frame type?

it's funny because i just started doing voyager yesterday, best results was to use QTGMC with "very slow' preset and use "selecteven()" to prevent frame rate doubling. the quicker presets couldn't resolve as much detail in the higher frame rate shots and since the frame rate flips throughout the show this works much better.

It sounds like you are outputting at 29.97 which will cause 1-in-5 stuttering on the film scenes.
