Hi all

Long time no post.

I've not had any problems with DvdRebuilder Pro since the beta days but I've got a problem with Pirates of the Caribbean 4 UK.
I can rip without problem ( AnyDvd 7.1.8.0 ) but Rebuilder just won't make a working backup. At first I thought it was because I was removing too much dross from the structure but even just doing a 1 click encode with default settings won't do it. All I get is a disc that spins up in the player, it chuggs away for a bit while it tries to read the disc then just stops. I've tried it on another player and it's the same.
The output from Rebuilder won't play with the pc's dvd player either.
I've tried Shrink and that worked but I had to manually press the menu button to get the thing to play.

Any ideas?

Cheers Soup

A bit of an update.

All the attempts to get a working backup with other software have resulted in what looks like a corrupted dvd menu. I can usually get one to play by pressing menu on the remote then the main menu usually appears. I can't even get that far with DvdRebuilder.....
I've set up another attempt with rebuilder and will see how it turns out tomorrow.
I'm almost certain that if I select movie only it'd be fine ( I'll check that tomorrow too ) but this is needling me now

Hi Soup,

don't know if you done it that way but you should rip with anyDVD to HDD first and process with DVDRebuilder from ripped files.
BUT if I remember correctly POTC4 (Region 2) was one of the titles I had massive problems with when it was released.
I processed it with VOBBlanker and spent quite a while using PGCedit amending the initial authoring. I think it had 4 different language units in VMGM with 1 PGC containing 25 buttons that are skipped and duplicate title numbers. But if you are not common how to use PGCedit's trace mode and with DVD commands I don't suggest to go this way.

BTW Do you have menu Encoding enabled?
Maybe you could try to disable it and raise the parameter VTS_MIN_SIZE (rebuilder.ini) to a size so only the VTS containing the main movie is processed. That way DVDRebuilder copies unprocessed material from the source unchanged to the target. In addition Parameter DISABLE_UNREFERENCED_REMOVAL=1 keeps also stuff that is not used.

Final question: What about burning to DL?

Hi ggtop

The dvd was ripped with AnyDvd to hdd first. I didn't do any pre processing at all either.
The last time I used VOBBlanker, ifoedit and the like was back in the days of the beta versions of DvdRebuilder and while I did have some success, I had a lot more time to spend on the subject then and have now forgotten anything I'd learned.
The first time I encoded this with Rebuilder I had menu encoding enabled, I've tried it without and had no improvement.
I set VTS_MIN_SIZE to 0 a while ago to process one particular dvd but now you remind me, I'd forgotten to return it to it's default value. I'll restore it, check DISABLE_UNREFERENCED_REMOVAL while I'm at it and give it another go.
I do have a couple of D/L discs just for circumstances like this but Rebuilder has been so reliable since RC 5 that I've just taken it for granted. I'm amazed that something has managed to trip it up.
I doubt our Mr Dobbs will be doing any more updates for it as he's got a job on with BD..... You never know though ;)
