Increasing quality on lower bitrate?

Hi,

I wonder if there is a way to increase the overall quality at lower bitrates.

And well, i know it isn´t possible without drawbacks, but here is the thing.

If you have used or watched youtube, you probably know that they use like 2.5k bitrate at best, which is very low on good content, for example games.

One thing is dark games, low bitrates totally kills everything there.

But i wonder if there is a way to use avisynth to decrease the bitrate needed, and make it more compressible, especially in dark places, which i think takes much bitrate (gradients and such).

Btw, i am using x264, but shouldn´t really make much matter.

I am open for ideas and suggestions:)

Any suggestions on settings and filter for that?
As it´s really not any real noise.

In your case I'd first try plain dfttest with different sigma values. But know that if you're sure there's no even invisible noise - it will be blurring off the real fine details.

You could try messing around with SMDegrain (http://doom10.org/index.php?topic=2178.0), which seems to work alright with games.

I can´t get SMDegrain to work, i get access violation.

What version of Avisynth are you using?
