Need Capture Card Advice and More

I have some material on VHS I need to capture and I need some advice.

My VCR only has RCA and coax output. I haven't seen any cards with RCA inputs. I'm guessing coax output would work but I'm not sure of the quality vs. RCA. I also need lossless capture. Furthermore, I'm running linux and Windows 7 so the card would need to support one or both of these (preferably linux).

Next is the question of formats and software. Since I want lossless, I'm guessing Lagarith or HuffYUV would be best though apparently VP8 and x264 can do lossless. I'm not sure what would be best. Another factor influencing this decision is that I'll want a lossy copy for everyday viewing purposes (lossless is for archival purposes), preferably webm or theora, so the lossless format would have to be supported by whatever software makes the lossy copy.

Finally, I'm not sure what software to use for the capture, encoding to the lossless format, and transcoding to the lossy format.

I needed to to this same task but I have not investigated Linux, only Windows 7 x64.

I decided on a Black Magic Intensity Pro as a good capture card, it is supported by VirtualDub where you can capture to Huffyuv or any of the VFW lossless codecs. It supports RCA (composite), s-video, component, and HDMI.

It is easy to encode the resulting lossless file with x264 or whichever codec you want to use. I use batch files for x264 encoding but any of the simple x264 GUIs would work. I like LoRd_MuldeR's Simple x264 Launcher (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144140). I use eac3to for the audio.

I use s-video but given a choice between RCA and coax I would use RCA, coax has the audio multiplexed into the signal along with all of the video.

I left out an important piece of information in my post. I forgot that component video also uses RCA. My VCR only has composite video output however (single yellow RCA cable for video). It doesn't look like the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro accepts either coax or composite RCA.

Since I can't seem to find a card that accepts composite RCA input, I'm guessing coax is the only way I can do this. I assume any card with TV tuner capabilities has to accept coax. Anyone have any suggestions?

I once had AverTV 503, it does have RCA composite input as well. I'm sure many older analgue cards have this input.

The Black Magic Intensity Pro does accept the one yellow input, you plug it into the green or blue of the component (I don't remember which) but it does support it. I have done it myself. It also supports s-video but it needs an adapter to split it to two of those same connectors. It does not accept coax but you really shouldn't use coax anyway, if at all possible.
