Long Seek Times After Encoding With MeGUI

I have noticed that the output video that MeGUI spits out seems to have problems with seeking. If i load the video up in WMP, and jump to a certain part of the video it take a good while for the video to start playing again. The raw file i get from my capture before encoding it doesnt have this problem at all. Im guessing it must be to do with key frame?? If so how can i improve this so my videos seek faster?

Seems to be fine. Have you tried other players like MPC-HC or VLC?

Yeah VLC seems to have the same problem. Is there a program or codec that could effect this as it didnt always do this it was fine before? And stuff i download which is 720p seeks fine, i know these videos ive upscaled them to 1080p but that should cause this amount of time to seek to a part of the video?. Heck even the raw capture file seeks fne, it just after ive encoded if there problem happens. Would adding more key frames sort this issue

I have tried enabling 'Dummy Elements' in VLC Player, but didnt help. Its not just VLC player that has trouble seeking so does WMP also. Must be something happening when the fil is being encodes as the raw capture file seeks fine before hand

Try adding "--b-pyramid none" (without quotes) to command line (final tab in MeGUI advanced settings), and encode a short clip to test whether it makes a difference during playback.

I've found that seeking sometimes improves with no b-pyramid, and if you don't care about file size (much) the lack of b-pyramid will normally only increase size slightly (circa 5-10%) for same quality. Or reduce quality slightly for same filesize.

No that didnt appear to help. I just encoded a 16 minute clip with your above suggestion added, its take 53 seconds to seek to a point 1:50 into the 16 minute clip with WMP and 29 seconds with VLC !!

Have you tried remuxing it with mkvtoolnix?

For me the output of x264 is not very seekable as well but remuxing works for me.

No thats didnt appear to help either. Not sure what MEGUI is doing to the video file when it encodes it

It must be MeGUI, as ive started to use RIPBOT264, and the encoded video from that seeks fine

Maybe it has something to do with --open-gop?
