Is there some sequence of bytes in h264 that signifies the end of a complete frame ? No, you have to detect the start of the next picture (or EOS or EOF) to know that the current picture is done. The AVC spec defines all the conditions for recognizing the start of a picture. I warn you that it is nontrivial.
