Trying to do full backup with imgburn to iso to play on WD (usb). What settings should I use to maintain original quality?

afaik your standard option "folders > ISO" will do just fine. IMGBurn should see the video dvd content inside and adjust accordingly. Just note that if its a double layer sized dvd folder your drive will need to be formatted as NTFS, cause FAT32 has a max filesize limit of 4GB and thats even too small for a completely filled singler layer dvd size (upto 4.35GB)

FAT32 has a maximum INDIVIDUAL filesize of 4GBs, NOT a combined total filesize of 4GB...

To compress with BDRB and retain DVD functions, what settings would you recommend? I assume output to img with imgburn.

I "think" that as an ISO it is seen as one file not multiple VOB files for FAT determination.

@setarip_old: no i'm not misinterpreting things. I was already thinking the way JJB said combined DVD filestructure into ISO size.
If you create an iso, it's treated as 1 file of x GB. Fat doesn't care if there's 4 1GB files in the iso container or 1 4GB file. For fat32 it's the same thing. 4GB = 4GB which is the max size it can handle. If you create an iso out of a DVD structure that for example has a size of 5.26GB in total structure (5x1GB and a few more in other files) then the combined ISO size will be 1x 5.26GB ISO file and too big for a FAT32 filesystem. It doesn't matter if there are 5 1GB files inside. The OS doesn't care. Per filestandard, the file is too big.

To compress with BDRB and retain DVD functions
Hi nicksteel,
BDRB won't retain DVD functionality. DVD RB would, but if you want to maintain original quality you should simply make an .iso from the original rip. Finish!

Thanks. The WD with a usb hard drive is too slow for the dvd iso, so I'll have to stay with main movie mkv.
The mkv files are smaller now than previous beta, both with highest quality settings.
