Offer: 4K/5K video footage for testing purposes

Hi all,

I'd like to contribute to all the brilliant work carried out by all the talented individuals on Doom9 and "one higher". I know next to nothing about coding and I'm chronically broke, but I can donate some of my time to shoot 4K/5K footage you guys can use as source material for any kind of testing/development you might have in mind.

Unfortunately I cannot host the files myself nor can I deliver them over the internet, thanks to being hobbled by an internet connection a Neanderthal would die laughing at. But I can burn the files on Blu-ray discs and send them by post to someone with the capacity to host the files.

At the moment everything here is covered in two feet of snow so the footage would be kinda monotonous, but once spring does its thing, I can get out there and shoot something nice. In the meantime you can post suggestions on what sort of content you'd like to see. I have some idea of what kind of images give encoders a throbbing headache but suggestions are welcomed regardless.

RED Epic, lots of different lenses, I was thinking about exporting the footage into an image sequence (TIFF files).

so shooting to red-raw > converting using propriety red software to TIFF files? Is it possible to "develop" red-raw with free software?
(Personally i'd be interested in portraits, INT > low light, EXT as well, but other kind of footage is interesting as well)

Certainly. I use RED's own REDCine-X Pro which is free and available on their website.

Low light is a bit of a problem for the Epic as its sensor is not exactly noiseless when starved for light. I'd personally light the scene properly so the sensor is well fed, then do the low-light look in post.

Didn't say I wouldn't... but I would not expect codec developers waste time in learning the ins and outs of RC-X in order to get footage to test their codec with. Besides, it's super easy to mess things up in RC-X if you don't know what you're doing. I was just thinking about saving developers' time and effort by providing an image sequence.
