I recently got a new PC with an i7-3770k and Radeon 7970, running Win 8. I've been trying a few programs to convert my Blu rays to mp4. When using Handbrake I can do this in basically real time with the following settings:
Source: MKV rip from Blu ray disc
Output: Mp4, Large file size, Web optimized
Size: 1920x1080, Loose Anamorphic
Video Filters: Decomb Default
Video Codec: H.264
FPS: Same as source, Constant
Quality: Constant, 18-16.5
Audio:
1 (AC3) (5.1ch) to AAC (faac) with Mixdown: Dolby Pro Logic 2
2 (AC3) (5.1ch) > AC3 Passthru
The same 2h movie can be done with MediaEspresso and the Virtu MVP installed in 10 minutes with these settings:
File Format: MP4
Video Format: H.264
Resolution: 1920x1080
Bitrate: 13Mbps
Frame rate: Auto
Audio: AAC
Sampling rate: 441KHz
Bitrate: 160Kbps
How comparable are these files? Is there any way to speed up Handbrake with the Intel Quicksync and Virtu programs? I added Handbrake to the .exe list in Virtu MVP but that doesn't appear to have helped. Since MediaEspresso only gives an option for AAC audio, I tried that in Hadbrake. Changing or removing audio did not make a difference in encode time. Is there another program I should try that has more options than MediaEspresso and is faster than Handbrake?
