View Full Version : Weird issue when adding audio stream in virtualdubmod

This is what is happening. I have an xvid avi video (1h33min long) with two ac3 streams: 5.1 and 2.0 channels. For the streams to be perfectly synchromized, I need to delay both by 500 ms.
I used Delaycut to do that, and then used virtualdubmod to remux the audio with the two audio streams.

When I load the ac3 streams (using the 'add' button in Streams > Stream list ) the 5.1 stream appears with the nominal length of 01:33:24.800 and the normal bitrate of 448 kbps, but the 2.0 stream shows up with a length of 01:43:32.319 (10 seconds too long), and a reduced bitrate of 173.2 kbps (vs. 192 kbps).

The weird part is that the problem stream is perfectly fine in terms of duration and bitrate with MediaInfo and when played all by itself with Media Player Classic.
When the video is played after multiplexing with Virtualdubmod, the first stream is in sync, and the second one plays 10 seconds too late.
This doesn't happen with the original stream (prior to delaying it with Delaycut), but the thing is that the problem appears only in Virtualdubmod. It looks like virtualdubmod has added 10
If anyone has seen something similar, or knows the problem, please let me know.

Well, the audio file generated by DelayCut looks totally valid based on MediaInfo and several media players. I also tried to 'fix' the file with ac3fix.exe. I thought it would be able to detect and remove the 10 secs worth of 'phantom' audio at the beginning. It didn't detect any issue either.

But, when I used BeSweet to delay the ac3 stream, the problem disappeared, and VirtualDubMod inserted that stream without any weird behavior.

Conclusion: the issue comes from Delaycut, not Virtualdubmod.

@JeanMarc

Hi!

You might also try using the current version of the pure VirtualDub instead of the long-in-the-tooth VirtualDubMod...

I don't think VirtualDub supports AC3 audio and multiple audio streams.

Yes and no. Contrary to Virtualdub, VirtualdubMod does support multiple audio streams -- the main reason why I am using it -- and both accept ac3, including 5.1 channel streams.

Perhaps you can try cutting with Free Audio Dub.

This is the one I use to cut my audio. I find it easier to use than delaycut.
You can only cut out end and beginning though, (leaving the middle section that you want). It can't add delay.

Thanks, seems nice. Can I delay any audio stream with it?

I told you already, it can't add delay.

And all of this was about creating a delayed audio stream.

Just use AVI-Mux GUI, case solved.
