Hi,
Sorry if you already thought of this - can you burn vcd to a 800 meg cd-r ?? Just a thought - there may well be compatibility issues. Other than that someone else will have to reply.

The point is that you can easily fit an 800MB svcd onto a 700MB cd-r. Can't explain how exactly does it work, but read guides here, at doom9, and you will find out that these are the specs of the svcd. 800MB can be fit onto an 700MB (80 minutes). It's like 10MB for 1 minute on a cd-r. For example, you can fit 740MB svcd onto a 650MB (74 minutes) cd-r.
take care

FYI, with VCD or SVCD you can burn up to 800MB on a 80Min CD-R, because there is less error correction than with a data CD-R, which frees up some additional space for the video file.

sibe's right. VCD and SVCD store the video data on the CDR as mode 2 form 2. Mode 2 form 2 uses less error correction than mode 2 form 1 or mode 1.
Normal data CDs are mode 1 or mode 2 form 1, which has 2048 bytes of user data per sector (a sector is 1/75 of a second). Mode 2 form 2 has 2324 bytes of user data per sector. So, an 80 minute CDR will hold roughly 796 MB of SVCD video, and a 74 minute CDR will hold roughly 738 MB.
You can easily calculate the capacity yourself (80*60*75*2324/1024/1024).
