View Full Version : Mac software that can use UT video codec

Hi Everyone,

I'm using Windows most of the time, but want to switch to Mac since it's easier to make movies.

Can you please advise which software can use UT video codec? As I remember iMovie only can use built-in codec, any software that I can convert the damn large "RLE" .mov to UT?

QT player with UTvideo codec for MAC installed?
Yo may just want to install older/legacy QT on MAC (if you using latest OS) to have better support for 3rd party.

Sure there is. Avidemux. It's been supported on OS X since at least early 2005.

Will try Avidemux, it's good for simple editing and convert between format, but it always crash under PC, can't handle the H.264 properly.
"Poisoned" by VirtualDub, too hard to change.

It can do far more than that. It also has Avsproxy which opens up tons of filtering options to use.

Can't say I've ever seen it crash once. You did report your issue?

can't handle the H.264 properly.

How does it not handle H.264 properly? I've never had a single problem with H.264 with it. Those warnings it gives you can mostly be ignored. It's just being overly cautious.

More than a years ago, really forgot submitted or not, it pop up with message that need to work-around an H.264 problem, but even answering YES sometimes it still crash.

Then I use FFMPEG (Windows) convert the whole movie to HuffYUV in order to process with VirtualDub.

So then your knowledge and experiences with the program are horribly outdated. To try to reproduce crashes as you claimed I loaded dozens upon dozens of H.264 clips from Blurays, reencodes, etc. of various sizes and encoding settings and not a single one crashed. It's best to retry the program.
