Hello,
I'm a 72 year old noobie and would like some assistance, please.

I have been running JRivers Media Jukebox 8.400 for years and wish to continue using it. I do not like the newer (and free) upgrade (MJ14). I recently upgraded to a newer computer but am still running Windows XP SP3. I did download and install MJ8.400 along with some 10+k music files which are categorized and smartlisted.

My Problem: MJ8's encoders are no longer supported. When I download the encoder file, I get the message that the file "failed to install. More Info: Failed to unzip" this file.

I've tried to unzip this file, but cannot using several "unzip" programs.

MJ8 download link for MJ8 is at http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Old_Versions

The encoder file is at www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj_data/plugins/enc_mp3.mjp

Any assistance or suggestions would really be appreciated. If you need the unzipped file or more information, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for any assistance and/or suggestions.

I'm not familiar with JRivers Media Jukebox, but if you really are looking for an MP3 Encoder, then there is no way around LAME.

It's known as the most sophisticated MP3 encoder you can get and it's free software. There also are many GUI's available for LAME, which should make using it piece of cake.

For example:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=LAME&Submit=Search&convert=&s=&orderby=Name&hits=50

BTW: As even the "extended" support for Windows XP will end in about one year, after 13 years, it's time to start thinking about an alternative...

I don't know Jriver but seems your enc_mp3.mjp:

[Package]
Name=MP3 Encoder
Action=UNZIPDIR
Version=2.0.51
URL=http://www.mediajukebox.com/mj_data/plugins/enc_mp3.zip

[Action]
File1=*.*
File1Action1=COPY_PLUGINDIR
File2=enc_mp3.dll
File2Action1=REGISTER

have a old/wrong link: http://www.mediajukebox.com/mj_data/plugins/enc_mp3.zip (the file don't exist)

I try this link: http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj_data/plugins/enc_mp3.zip and I download enc_mp3.zip (a old lame encoder)

Then try edit (Notepad for instance) enc_mp3.mjp replacing the link.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm a real noobie in dealing with problems such as this and am only semi-computer literate despite having an MD degree. I'm certain you reply to my problem is quite coherent and easily utilized by someone with the computer skills I lack.

Fortunately, on Sunday, my grand-daughter's boyfriend is coming over, and I'm going to challenge him with implementing your response.

I am very appreciative to you and the other members on this forum who have replied. I shall post your response to the thread on JRivers Interact Forum where this problem is being discussed.

Once more, Thank you very much.

Hmm, it looks like Jriver may have updated that file (enc_mp3.mjp (www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj_data/plugins/enc_mp3.mjp)). If I download it now it has the correct link in it.

You might just need to re-download it.

Yes, seems now the enc_mp3.mjp file is correct.
