View Full Version : How to identify some elements of a BD using a standalone?

Most standalones I believe only show the title number and/or the chapter number.
Is there any info on what exactly these numbers represent?
It would help identifying the needed parts much easier.

Hi!
Are you referring to the PRELIMINARY onscreen "TITLE" information that appears initially (for several or many seconds) on an otherwise black screen before and after a "Loading" screen appears, or are you referring to the "Chapter" information that appears during trailers and the main movie?

No, I am referring to the numbers a standalone displays.
For instance, Ice Age 4 has a zillion M2TS files, that are grouped together in various playlists (according to the language), but the player displays simply 1 for the title.
Mostly I do not care about menus and I hate java on BDs, thus I tried to find a simple and safe way of finding which is which ....

1) Certainly, you can have no question as to what the Chapter numbers represent, can you?
2) Are you playing "FULL DISC" copies or "MOVIE-ONLY" copies? If "MOVIE_ONLY", depending on how you ripped it, the disc may contain only one title/MPLS, representing the entire movie

If it's a disc with a Java-based menu, the player will always display the title # of the Java title (most likely 1), thus it will likely never change when you go from menu to feature to trailer, whatever... But if you launch an interactive game that throws up a loading icon, it'll probably change to a different title # for that since you are launching a new Java title. Other than the 1 or 2 Java titles, most Java based discs don't even have Titles, so there's nothing else for the player to display anyway.
If it's an HDMV disc, there should be a unique Title # for every piece of video (not every M2TS, but for every PlayList you can call from the menus), so you could easily determine what is what on those... But very few major studio discs are HDMV these days (at least, the A-titles...)

The answer is completely unusable, I was talking about an original disc that contains more than a title (yes, I am able to discern which title is which when only one is present :) )
I do not play copies, I play the original which is java based and I thought the standalone will provide some informations about which playlist/title is played under certain conditions.

Thank you, this is the kind of answer I was expecting.
Yes, it's java based, thus my standalones always display 1 for the main movie.
True, my player displays * for those "titles".
Yeah, it seems that I have to go back to manual work :(
