Hi,
I would like to encode a movie to be compliant with BD 3D specifications. I use a MVC encoder but I don't understand all settings.
Does anyone could help me to choose H264 settings for BD3D MVC encode ?
For this capture, I think all is correct :

This is Mainconcept MVC encoder, if you don't have BD3D specs, you will hardly find what settings are compliant, you better use Rovi TotalCode to do that because it's focused only for MVC that meet BD specs

This is Rovi TotalCode Studio 2.5.0 ;)
It's the only software I found compatible with DirectShowMVCSource and H264 sources, so no need to convert AVC/MVC to AVI/YUV

4.999$, It's too expensive, at this price, I buy the double of my BD3D collection.

Any idea about B-Frames, Ref frames and Bit rate Max ? :)

don't go over 3 B frames, Ref frames are limited by DPB (implied by level), Bitrate max 30 Mbps should be safe (up to 40 Mbps is allowed but this can be to high for recordable media).

I use 3 B-Frames, 4 Ref frames and for bitrate max I use 30Mbps for left and 15Mbps for right so 45Mbps max but perhaps 15Mbps is too low for right ?

I believe there is no real MVC in BD...

This is 2D H.264 stream and only some syntax for MVC is used - real MVC is i think still to demanding (CPU power) and there is no tools that can produce real 3D MVC (what currently is displayed and encoded can be named as 2.5D at maximum).

And yes, i believe that You are confused as this is marketing strategy to confuse customer.

can you clarify your statement?

Do you mean that BD-3D is a psuedo AVC/MVC (you call "2.5D" because it uses it for stereography only (vs true multi-view-camera) - eg showing in a popup box the filming of the sceen as "extra feature" while watching the finished product???

This example can be done with multiple AVC streams in the container but you obviously don't get the advantage of the cross-stream compression that MVC adds to the AVC spec.

Where did you get this info from?
BD offers "real" 3D with huge bitrate savings thanks to MVC encoding.
There are at least 4 MVC encoders, which can produce BD compliant streams.

Yes, BD focus on stereoscopy where MVC also cover FTV - today real MVC (FTV) is to complex thus BD tools are usually quite limited.
Additionally large set decoders is capable to decode simple stereoscopic video coded as 2 independent areas (mostly SBS).
This mainstream.

Perhaps it offer huge bitrate savings but how many decoders is capable to decode such video?

Most offered mainstream decoders are H.264 decoders with some MVC syntax capability usually limited to SbS/TaB signaling.
Typical "MVC" decoder is not even able to recalculate FOV related to actual head position.

But this is my personal opinion and perhaps it is incorrect - i'm not big supporter for such TV.
