View Full Version : DVD-RB - Getting "no .M2V" error after updating HC Encoder

I just decided to start using DVD Rebuilder for some backups instead of DVD Shrink. I am new to the program so I may be doing something wrong.

I downloaded the free version of Rebuilder (v0.98.2) and compressed a movie. Everything went fine, but I noticed it was only using 25% of my CPU. I then relised the version of HC Encoder that cam pre-installed with the program was old and I decided to update it. I downloaded and tried the 3 latest versions I could find (23, 25, 26-beta), but all gave me an error saying:

"Error: File V... shows completed, but no .m2v file exists. Aborted"

Here is the log showing the error:

[15:39:21] Phase I, PREPARATION started.

What is the correct way to update the encoder? I downloaded and unzipped the folder. Then coppied HCenc_026.exe to C:\Program Files\DVD-RB\Encoders\HC Encoder and renamed it HCbatch.exe.

Do I also need to update the DGDecode file? The new encoder comes with 7 different DGDecode files. I tried the latest one, but I still get the error.

I am getting the error on the same DVD files that worked fine before I tried to update the encoder. I also tried another DVD and got the same error.

No! You have to use the dgdecode.dll that comes with dvd-rb.

All you need to do is to make sure that the reference in dvdrebuilder.ini points to the correct file:
HC=<path>\hc.exe

I too am having the same problem only difference being that I have the Pro version of Rebuilder.

I originally only replaced the HCbatch.exe file with the new version and I was getting the error. I read something online about the dgdecode.dll file and thought I might need that too, but I guess not.

To make things simpler I started over. I just completely uninstalled DVD Rebuilder and reinstalled it. Then replaced the HCbatch.exe file with the new file and renamed it HCbatch.exe.

I checked my rebuilder.ini file and it does point to the correct file:

HC=C:\Program Files\DVD-RB\Encoders\HC Encoder\HCbatch.EXE

I just tried the same DVD after doing the above and I get the same error and log I posted in my first post.

No idea. I just tried DVD-Rebuilder free with the latest HC Beta. Works just fine (on XP32).
Maybe Jdobbs can shed some light on this.

Post the content of your rebuilder.ini.

I just fixed my problem.

I just built a new computer and installed this on a clean install of windows. I didn't have AVISynth and DVD Rebuilder installed it for me when I installed the program. It originally worked fine, but the new HC Encoder needs an updated version of AVISynth.

If you don't have the latest version or AVISynth, uninstall your current version and install version 2.5.8.

That worked for me. Just dropped my 79 minute encode to 30 with the new encoder. It's now using 70-80% of my CPU, would like to get it up to 100%, but it's much better than the 25% it was running at.

Thanks for your help. Hopefully this will fix the problem for auldyin and anyone else that reads this in the future.

This needs to be explored a little further...:confused:

I have been using HC 0.26 Beta since it came out over a year ago, and it works without any problems using AviSynth 2.56 and 2.57. I am on WinXP SP3. Could it have something to do with your version of Windows?

I'm also running 32 bit XP Pro SP3.

I don't know what version of AVISynth comes with the DVD Rebuilder installer, maybe it's older than 2.5.6?

Either way it fixed the problem for me and auldyin so I don't see what else it could be. I didn't change a single thing other than updating AVISynth. I'm guessing DVD Rebuilder comes with a version of AVISynth that is older than 2.5.6.

Yes, you are absolutely right! The DVD-RB installer package comes with AviSynth 2.5.5, and with this version the latest HC throws an error: "Cannot load AviSynth Create Script Environment". Updating AviSynth to at least version 2.56 fixes it...:D
