do I need xvid/divx from "original site" to encode in such?

I was wondering if installing ffdshow will suffice to encode in xvid/divx or I need original codecs?

Xvid comes in different forms. What you need exactly depends on the GUI you plan on using. Some come with their own xvid library and some need the pre-installed xvid vfw codec.
