Which do you guys use for resizing? Is there any better resizers than spline resize?

nnedi or eedi for upconverting

and for downsizing?

well, there're a lot of tools can be used for downconverting and give almost the same result
I'd like to use Dither_resize16 to make the whole resizing process in 16bit by my personal taste

spline36resize, is good choice. As say feisty2, do resize with dithertools is great.

I use splineresize for most of my encodes any reason why i should change to dithertools?

We don't ask what's better (or best) around here. Do your own experiments and use the one that pleases you. And reread the forum rules, especially number 12:

I gave dithertools a spin for resizing and think I'll be using it more. I only tested it for resizing existing video, not for encoding though.

Resizing down a 720p video with lots of detail to 480p, I couldn't pick any difference between spline36 (which I normally use) and dithertools default resizing.
Resizing a 720p video with lots of banding though was a different story. Spline36 resized the banding, maybe making it a little worse, whereas dithertools reduced it a little.

I tried dithertool's GradFun3() on the same 720p video without resizing and it reduced the banding considerably while seeming to have almost no effect on normal detail.

Given dithertools would often be used to prevent banding when encoding I'll be doing some encoding tests when I get a chance but so far it looks very promising.

If you have banding deal with it explicitly, do not rely on the side effects of other processes.

Yes the standard resizers will just resize the banding. A sharp kernel may well enhance the banding edge transitions. Yes introducing dither into the pipe will effect the banding, but it might make it worse under some adverse conditions.

Is it necessary to resize after cropping the borders? I cropped my DVD's edges(720,480) to (712,478) < Do i have to resize?

If it's for DVD you do.

If it's going to be played back on a computer or a "play-it-all" media player it's not necessary to resize.

If it's going back to DVD you should not crop and resize at all.

i am going to play in on my HDTV, is it necessary to resize in this case?

How to upscale 720x480 dvd to 1280x720 with nnedi2/3?

Most likely not. You only need to resize to "standard" resolutions when you create DVD or Blu-Ray structures which follow stricter rules than simple mkv, mp4 or avi files.
