So i happen to have some older stuff in 720x576 25p anamorf (usually uncompressed sources) and i'd like to upsize using ffmpeg or whatever free stuff that can be run on OSX.

The reason is the new graphical titles and stuff that is 1080 50i.

I haven't really try hard so far (tested adobe after effects and ffmpeg), but the results are not that good. I need something practical and fast....

The results so far are the mix of aliasing/blinking and oily faces at the same time (Which is most likely connected to various input quality source)

If there is no satisfactory solution known, then what would be a thing to buy? (hardware or software)

edit: For 25p pal source, this seems pretty neat;
-sws_flags experimental -vf hqdn3d,scale=1920:1080

Well... I'd skip hqdn3d and just use bicubic or spline36 resizing to 1080p. Maybe nnedi3 if you want to spend a lot of time... So yeah, AviSynth.

It is probably quite sample specific, in this specific case the denoiser just happened to hide some striping/banding (whats the term?), and at end i added some grain (and the results are actually quite spectacular).
p.s. What pisses me off is that i know material was actually HD, but can't find it anymore (my backup strategy failer...)
