I have ripped DVDs in less than 20 minutes even with my old Pentium 200MMX ... the ripping speed is not dictated generally by the size of the memory, speed of the CPU or size of the HDD.

On my new system I sped up my ripping by a 1/3 or more. I think the difference was from using 6.0 Gbs transfer rate sata HD, before I ripped to a usb drive and it was the usb that slowed it down. I have been reading SSD drives are even faster.

SSD would not be faster for ripping. As long as everything is fast enough to keep up with the optical drive only the speed of the optical drive matters. As of now no optical drive can come close to saturating SATA2 let alone SATA3. USB can be very slow so switching from USB to SATA is probably what gave you the boost.

You didn't mention which LG DVD RW drive; this is the most important part for ripping speed. Check if it is rip-locked and if there are any custom firmwares available for it!

That computer looks decent to me, I now prefer WD Blacks to Seagates (mostly for the warranty, they do cost more though) but my 3 and 4 TB Seagates have been trouble free.
