Hi Folks
Im working on a title where the client would like in and out effects for each portion of the menu system. At the bottom I have button such as Play, Scene Selection and Languages.
For example, Pressing Scene Selects brings in the Chapters window (on top) in from the left. Pressing the close button and it returns from where it came. The same functionality goes for the Special Features and Languages portion as well.

In a nutshell, I’d like In and Out effects as the user travels from Page to Page in the menu system.

Could anyone provide a step by step on how this is accomplished? Is it a matter of bringing in each portion of menu (the static part and the part you wish to animate) and creating 2 pallets and 2 compositions in the Effects Set up window? The company no longer has any support for an older sonic contract.

I’ve included a pic so you can get a visual

Thanks

Ok.....can someone comment on how to create In and Out Effects to slide up from the bottom? Been using the crop function in the wizard and can get it to slide in from the sides but can't seem to understand how to get it to slide up from below or top?

Theres a simple solution Im sure but can get my mind to wrap around the idea?

Anyone with some experience in In/Out Effects care to comment?

Cropping should look like (slide from bottom)

Yeah....I knew its was something simple. :)

Could you explain why crop would create this movement? It seems more intuitive to use the Move function. Is there a relation between crop and move in the wizard? Just trying to find an Ah Ha moment here?

Could you comment on the original question at the top?

Thanks for the help!!

Did that work? The screen shot doesn't look exactly like I remember it, but the description is right. I seem to remember the start box being completely collapsed to a blue line the way I did it... Looks like you are moving the cropped area maybe? That'd probably work too, just different ways to do it...

Coming up from the bottom you aren't actually 'moving' the image. HDMV won't allow a visible graphic to be pushed out of the visible screen area (at least, Scenarist complains about it), so what you are doing is cropping the image and displaying that cropped image. So you crop off everything but the top 10 pixels, and display those at the bottom of the screen, then crop everything but the top 20 pixels and display them at the bottom of the screen, and so on. The effect you see appears to be a graphic sliding up from off the screen. (This is assuming the pop-up graphic is sitting on the bottom of the screen, but the idea works anywhere on the screen. You aren't really popping up a graphic so much as creating an animation of frames of a sequentially less-cropped image.)

Technically, sliding in from any direction is done this way... You can even come in diagonally from a corner if you want to. I had a client once that didn't care how the menus came on, so I got to have a little fun with them. :) Corner slides, left/right popins, one just faded on, one actually 'swiped' on so it look like it just grew on the screen vs actually sliding... Whatever I thought looked cool for the title, those were fun. I actually like clients that are like 'just make it work, we don't care...' Wish more were like that. :D

Yeah I got it working. Thanks

The issue I'm having is lining up the png used for the effect to the original menu exported out of designer. Right now I'm exporting out of designer a "full canvas" size png from designer and it matches fine. I hope that makes sense? I'm in the dark on alot of the workflows with this app

Such a ghetto tool and spec. :)

Full canvas is fine.
Watching this video (http://youtu.be/w7Xdv8xa_7Y) should help to find an Ah Ha moment...

Thanks for that video.....that makes sense!

Another question: I'm only able to adjust each In Effect to a duration of 2 frames. I've adjusted the window then go to each effect to make it 1....it then reverts back to 2 frames. Why is this??

Because the duration depends on the window dimension. If the window is small, you can have 1 frame duration, if it's bigger then 2 frames are required. If the window is near full-screen, 4 frames are required.

Thanks.....last night I was able to squeeze the window down to be able make the duration 1 frame
