I built up a new system and love all the new hardware. Windows has been difficult. I have W7 home64 sp1 and after the 3rd install I figured out that at least in 2 and 3 the 1st big window update my pdvd 11 no longer played smooth.
On my 3rd install I installed all by basic necessary software mobo and graphics drivers then tested the pdvd 11 and it worked fine. So I installed all 105 critical and 3 optional updates and when to bed. Sure enough pdvd no longer worked. The behavior was strange I could mount the video play it on my system monitor but on the HDTV it would begin to play and if I clicked anything the picture would become somewhat grayed out while still playing and no buttons would work. I would have force the program to close. This is the same behavior with install 2. On 2 I didn’t realize I had a problem with my player so I installed all my programs and updates, everything else seemed to work perfect. I used windows restore and yep it play perfect again.
Install one done last week went pretty smooth but I was waiting for new hardware and thought I could reinstall the OS from an acronis image backup, that didn’t work. Its an older version and although it installed on W7 when tried to install the backup, one it took 1.5 hours what generally takes 20-30 min tops. When windows would reboot it would get to the windows is preparing your desktop screen but no farther.
So I guess no more windows updates for me for a while.
:D I hate windows
If I get everything working and this computer is not connected do I need windows updates?
