View Full Version : Burn avchd to dvd in hd?

I read that it's possible to burn avchd files to a std dvd and still retain hd quality although not the bd quality, but better than sd. I know that only certain players will be able to play them back, and they would have to be bd players. I was following the imgburn method but cannot locate the certificate folder that they refer to. It requires the BDMV folder which I have no problem locating but cannot find the certificate folder in my Sony HDR CX160 menu.
I'm not partial to Imgburn, if there's a simpler way, no problem.
Tks, SM

Hi! would MultiAVCHD be a good program to do this?Yes it would. BD-Rebuilder is another alternative (My favorite ;>})
You'll be extremely pleasantly surprised at the quality of output from both of these programs!

Would I be in the same situation with the said "certificate folder" with either of these prgs?

Well I went with multiavchd. After a lot of reading, I burnt two DVD+R (one using the strict option and the other without). Both played well in a Samsung BD player, not sure of the model (it was my friend's) and yes, the quality was very impressive.
I only have an OppO upconverting player and as suspected, would not read them but of course they played on my pc.
Thanks for all your help.

I will probably give it a try. I struggled a bit with multiavchd, I must admit. I'm no tv producer that's for sure, lol. I sometimes wonder how come it still works??? I did end up using imgburn at the end of course and for burning but it never asked about any particular folders of which of course, I was quite happy.
There most be tons of hours in getting these progs to work for us, making them user friendly (for dummys like me). I acknowledge all those that got their hands dirty, I am not worthy......

I d/l what I need to run BD Rebuilder. Now what I've done with Multiavchd is I burnt an mp4 file (converted from my Sony HD camcorder and edited with moviemaker) on a DVD+R with very good hd results. I'd like to try BD Rebuilder and do the same but the program wants a blu-ray file as a source but I don't have a blu-ray file, I need to use the same file I used with Multiavchd. Is this possible?
Hope what I'm trying to explain makes sense.
Tks for your help.

Now what I've done with Multiavchd is I burnt an mp4 file (converted from my Sony HD camcorder and edited with moviemaker)When did an .MP4 file come into the equation? Stick to the files/folders ("BDMV" and "CERTIFICATE") you asked about in your initial post...

I apologize for not being clear on my initial post. My project was to be able to edit and add music to my multiple clip project (AVCHD) and still maintain the high definition quality of the original footage. Playing the clips through my WD media player requires me to press the play button for each clip which is quite annoying, so I wanted to join all the clips into one and do some editing (add titles and music).
I was able to do this using moviemaker and then MultiAVCHD. I just wanted to try BD Rebuilder but I don't have to.

Once again, please clarify:
When did an .MP4 file come into the equation?
Your initial post is about AVCHD/Blu-ray containers/formats...

I've accomplished what I set out to do, burn hd files on DVD-R and playback on std def. dvd player. Thank you. I'm still not done experimenting with MultiAVCHD. Please disregard comment on mp4.

At the risk of upsetting you, I'd suggest that your posting of the following two statements are confusing, to say the least: I read that it's possible to burn avchd files to a std dvd and still retain hd quality although not the bd quality, but better than sd. I know that only certain players will be able to play them back, and they would have to be bd players. I've accomplished what I set out to do, burn hd files on DVD-R and playback on std def. dvd player.
If it's my age getting the better of me, so be it - I'll be on my way. Glad to hear that you've accomplished what you set out to do...

Ok, I meant blu-ray player playback. As I don't own one yet, I typed what I own by error.
When I wrote that I was not finished learning all of MultiAVCHD capabilities, I'm still looking at it's possibilities. I'm hoping I can join several mts files (every time I pause my HD camcorder, it makes a file) into one main, add music, trim clips and perhaps add captions.
I have a WD media player so at this time I don't really need a BD player. I can stream all my HD content to my Panny so I have what I need at this time. It's more for family members that don't have media players.
