hey guys , i'm new to this forum but i have successfully ripped and converted a few dvd's. but where my problem is ,everytime i try to rip a dvd no matter what program i use ,about have way through the rip my pc has a fit and tells me that my dvd drive cannot be read and that the disc may be dirty or not in the drive. so i press esc to abort and try again but my dvd drive has locked up and i can't access it unless i do a reboot on my system.
the pc i have used before on several rips was a pentium 3 600mhz
but i have successfully done a rip on my pc using DVDX 1.6 which is a realtime decoder but now i get this error message and it is a windows based error(my screen goes blue)
my pc is a celeron 333mhx mmx 192ram 12x10x32x8 ricoh cdr/rw/dvd savage 4 32meg video card. i know it is not the best or strongest system to use but i know there would be ways arround this problem
the move i'm trying to rip is LITTLE NICKY and the last movie i done was GONE IN 60 SECONDS

ant help would be great guy's

Try to play the movie in the software player first - like PowerDVD or WinDVD, stop the movie and try to rip it.
Maybe this will help.
take care

BTW - change your system to Win2000 or WinXP :)

Some have recommended that you stop the player but leave it loaded and running while doing the rip.

If that fails, try removing and re-installing your rip kits. If that fails, try re-installing your OS. DLL overlays are always a possible reason.

is it just the one dvd that won't rip.if it is it proberbly has a big scratch on it.but if its all dvds that can'nt be ripped then its a problem with your drive(worn, laser need clean)a new drive maybe.there fairly cheap these days.

doesn't matter what movie or program it is still the same ,the only thing i can think of is that my cpu is not strong enough after all it is only a 333mhz celeron ,i do appreciate the all your posts but ,and still if there is a solution plz let my know..

if it tells you it cannot read then it most proberbly will be your rom drive.try puttiing it through a laser cleaner.
your cpu speed should'nt be the problem as it is basically just copying the vobs over to hd.

Decrypting to the hdd is actually quite cpu intensive when compared to straight forward copying - and you WOULD notice it on a celeron 333. Going by what you have said, Im guessing that you are running Win95,98 or Me. Thats because you wouldnt get a blue screen in an NT/XP operating system unless it had completely crashed! - very rare.
Even then, a blue screen should only appear when reading with the windows API commands - hence you cant have tried DVD Decrypter 3 (Please do so).
Mind you, the blue screen errors I guess could appear if the ASPI dll freaks out....hmmmm.
Give us some sort of a clue as to what the error screen says. :) It might help!

Good Luck.

all the blue screen error message says is that it failed to read disc ,disc may be dirty and require cleaning or disc is not in drive.
then i push esc to abort and everything is fine except i cannot access the dvd drive unless i do a reboot.

Did you try dvd decrypter like I said? What error did it put in the log?

i think i fixed the problem m8's ,i disabled the dma setting on dvd drive ,i tried dvd decyrpter and it worked with no problems but that is the only program i have used so far but i think if that worked then there's no reason for the others not to work, thanks for all your input and hopefully this is the last of my problems....
once again thanks m8's
