Hi, mates! My name is José and I am Spanish. I'm writing to you because I need you to help me, if possible.

I'll shoot: I've got the DVD of one movie and I re-encoded the main movie from 1.66:1 4:3 (original DVD) into 1.66:1 16:9 by creating an .avs script, removing some black bars and, then, turning the movie into 16:9, as I said before. The problem is that the VTS in which the main movie is also contains more TITLES (two short videos of some 5 minutes belonging to the DVD extras). So, when I corrected the main movie aspect ratio with PGCEdit, the extras (contained in the same VTS and originally 1.33:1 4:3) are now displayed in 16:9 format and are distorted...

I was thinking about using DVDRemakePro to create two new VTS titles in order to put those two extras in each VTS title and, then, to give them the proper 4:3 aspect ratio. The last step would be changing somehow the button commands in the extras menu, so that they can work and play the extras properly.

I know that it can be done, but I really don't know how, could you help me, please? Else, do you know any tutorial that could explain this process? I hope I have made myself clear and you can help me, mates!!!

Ok, danas, no problem! I've been searching for tutorials in the net for a few days, but the problem is that I didn't know what or how to search... Thanks!!!

I am not sure what you intend to do, but if your intention is to replace the old 43LB movie with a true (but reencoded) 169 version, while keeping all other things as before, you can use the good old darling, VobBlanker. Simply choose the PGC to be replaced with the remuxed one - if you performed other modifications have a look in its settings, too.

About correcting the DAR, this depends on the way the movie was authored. A snapshot from pgcedit would surely clarify this, too.

Here, Ghitulescu, here you are a snapshot of my DVD structure:

As you can see, "VTST 1,1" is the main movie, which now is 1:85:1 16:9 (originally 1.85:1 4:3). "VTST 1,5" and "VTST 1,6" are the extras, which were originally 1.33:1 4:3, and are in the same VTS as the main movie, and (=but) are now displayed in a 16:9 aspect ratio, because I changed the aspect ratio of the main movie in PGCEdit, from 1.85:1 4:3 into 1.85:1 16:9. Thus, the image of those extras are now distorted. My question is: is there any programa that could just modify/change the aspect ratio of those "VTST 1,5" and "VTST 1,6" so that they can be displayed in their proper 1.33:1 4:3 aspect ratio? I've heard that all the PGCs within a same VTS can only be displayed in the same aspect ratio, but now a friend of mine has told me just the opposite: he says that I can do this change by using IFOEdit. Is he right? And if so, how can I do it? Thanks!!!

No, there are not. All videos within a VTS must have the same DAR.

However, you can easily (if you know how a DVD works) reauthor the DVD, for instance by moving all extras in another VTS and flag them 4:3. Remember that you cannot jump directly from one VTS into another, so you'll need also to add dummy PGCs in the VMGM. You may need pgcedit, vobblanker, maybe pgcdemux and ifoedit/muxman.

I know how to use programs like PGCEdit, DVDRemakePro, VobBlanker, PGCDemux and IfoEdit/Muxman but, since it's the first time that I come across this problem, I really don't know how to face this stuff, though... I've been reading some info about DVDRemakePro and I've been using a tutorial on how to merge two DVDs into one... Not the same thing, you know, but there are some similarities... Which are the first steps and the key facts that I have to take into account to do this?

BTW, this is the tutorial I've been reading:

Yes!!! I've already followed that procedure in particular but now... what??? Do I have to follow all the steps in that tutorial or is there anything different? Thanks!!!

I told what to do - to move the 4:3 parts into a separate VTS. Use the tutorials, as I never used DVDReMaKe.

Hi, again! I've just created a new VTS by copying the VTS from my DVD. This is what I now got:

http://imageshack.us/a/img715/8278/imagendvd02.jpg

Now, I should manually redirect the jumps to the extras so that they jump to the extras on the new VTS. Similarly, I should probably need to edit the post-commands (and perhaps some cell commands) of the extras from the new VTS to return to the menu, I should also create a new menu in the new VTS, to return to the original menu when the user press the Menu button of the remote. And I might have to create several PGCs in the VMGM to go from the original VTS to the new one or vice-versa.

Ok, yes, but... how can I do this with DVDRemakePro or any other program? Is there anyone who could give me a hand, please? I think it's not quite difficult, but since it's the first time that I do this, I don't have much idea of manual editing commands. All I can say is that I usually learn very quickly!!! Thanks.

Hi, again! I've created two dummy PGCs in VMGM Menu. One for each new VTS, since I put each extra in a separate VTS. So, now I've got three VTS: VTS1 for main movie, VTS2 for extra 1, and VTS3 for extra 3. Now, if I'm not wrong, what I have to do is add a jump to the dummy PGC in VMGM Menu whose target will be the new VTS2 (extra 1), and the same for VMGM Menu, right? Then, I must change the menu button of each extra so that they jump to each dummy PGC in VMGM Menu, right? Hope I made myself clear, since I'm still no expert on the subject. Thanks!!!

I read that you have now 3 VTSs.
Yes, all you have now is to redirect every command that launched each extra to their corresponding dummy PGC in the VMGM. These two dummy PGCs contain a jump to their corresponding titles, each in its own VTS.

If you haven't deleted the old extras from the first VTS (as the image you posted shows), I would do it very effective by:
- for each extra the same procedure
* add as a last command in the pre-command part of the original PGC (VTS 1) a jump to the corresponding dummy PGC in the VMGM
* copy (and adapt if needed) the post-commands of the same original PGC to the corresponding post-commands of the new PGC (in VTS 2 or 3), respectively.
* blank and delete all cells of that PGC from VTS 1
* remove the duplicates from VTS 1 with vobblanker or fixvts

at the last step pay attention whether there are cell commands that might change the navigation (usually the last but one cell has).

All these changings in commands you can do with PGCedit. You have to read the manual of pgcedit about pgcedit itself and the jump commands a bit.

Hi, again, mates! I've been too busy the last two days, so I couldn't finish it. Please, have a look at these two pics so that you can see what I've done so far:

Picture 1:

http://imageshack.us/a/img515/4626/02dvdvmgtitles.jpg

In this picture 1, I created two new VMG PGCs (VMG Title 7 and VMG Title 8). So, VMG Title 7 jumps to VTS 2 PGC 6, and VMG Title 8 jumps to VTS 3 PGC 5. Is that right?

Picture 2

http://imageshack.us/a/img21/1073/01dvdextrasmenu.jpg

In this picture 2, you can see the DVD extras menu (the exact location of these extras menu is VTS 1 --> Menus en --> PGC 6). I edited the first extra button by rightclicking on it, I selected "Edit button command", then "Jump/Call instructions" and, finally, "Jump VMG PGC 7". That "VMG PGC 7" is the VMG PGC that I created in VMG Menu. For the button of extra 2, I did all the same, only that in this button of extra 2 I selected "Jump VMG PGC 8", which is the VMG PGC that I created for that extra 2.

Do you think that I'm going in the right way, mates? Thanks in advance!!!

I've managed to do everything except for one thing: create a "CallSS" -or whatever name it has- in case I want to use the remote to go back to the extras menu when playing an extra. Any idea, please?

Create a new menu in VTS 2 (right-click any PGC in VTS 2 and use "New menu"). In the Root Menu PGC that will be created, add a jump to a new dummy in the VMGM. Create the new VMGM dummy PGC. From that VMGM PGC, jump to the Root Menu of VTS 1. That should work.

I finally did it, mates!!! I blanked all the unrefereced PGCs and used VobBlanker to save my DVD correctly. Thank you so much!!! Now, I think I know how commands in a DVD work... Hope I can do some more of this stuff in the future. Thank you so much, really, mates. All the best, regards and hugs!!!
