View Full Version : Good spatial denoiser(s)/settings for cleaning up textures?

I've been producing textures for real-time 3d from copyright-free images on the internet, but the process is tedious, and I've decided to optimize my workflow by writing an avs to automate much of it. But, I've got a couple questions about which filters/settings would be the good analog to (or even better than) what I've been using to clean up compression noise. I actually use a two stage process; first I use a gimp plugin that implements the "unjpeg" algorithm to clean a bit of blocking and ringing. Then I use the anisotropic smoothing built into the G'MIC plugin to clean up the rest, which seems to be a good compromise between removing noise and keeping detail. So...

Would a multistage process give good results in my script, or is there one filter that will do just as well on it's own?

Which filter(s) (and order) would you recommend for this?

And finally, can you offer any guidlines on settings that will give good results?
