What is the title and Region number of your newly purchased 40 (or so) DVD disc set?

try a different drive (like a different brand). not necessarily newer or older, just whatever's around. use DVDfab just in case there's structural crap.

some drives can have difficulty with some discs.

it might be worth running surface scans (i forget which software does it these days) to see if spikes in error rates correspond to certain physical locations like layer breaks or whatever.

it's probably dirt-cheap replication, and nothing sinister.

if you absolutely can't get them to rip, take them back to the store and complain that they don't play. get a refund. you don't need to spend your money on crap. if you're really nice, delete the rips too (but i woudn't expect that). the authoring house needs to know there's been issues so they can act on it and either pull their rep house into line or find a better one.

Even using DVD Decrypter, I can't get the last 2 to rip.
Even? DVD Decrypter is hopelessly outdated and can't deal with current protections. Your best shot is using DVDfab (beta).

How certain are you it could be the drive? If it is, I'll have to wait till I can round up the cash to go out and buy a new one.

Right, I get what your saying but my issue here is not with breaking the encryption. It's simply a read error problem at this point. DVD Decrypter retries it over and over till works so thats why I use it.

any old drive will do, not necessarily a brand spanking new one. the rationale is that it might have a chance of reading the bits the other drive can't. it's usually more relevant to DVD-R, but it's worth a shot if you have another drive lying round. if not, don't worry too much - i'd just go for the return.

what's that got to do with anything? Knowing the specific set may allow searches on the Internet for specific issues that others have had, or to leverage his personal knowledge, as I know that setarip_old has an extensive collection.
