At Wits End!!!!

Hi all. I hope you can help a frustrated soul.

I have a pentium 4 1.6ghz 512megs of ram. Asus MB, ATI Radeon All In Wonder. Ultra ATA133 7200rpm 80 Gig Maxtor, Pioneer 106 reader, Pioneer AO3 burner. Sweet Huh?? NOT!

When I go to do a full res DVD capture in ATI's TV media from the SVIDEO output of my satelite reciever going into my SVIDEO input of my ATI, I still have frame drops. Plus over a span of a few minutes of capture, I develope lip sync problems, and it gets progressivley worse as the capture is longer.

My question is...just what the hell more do I need to get the job done?? I'm at my wits end, I already spent thousands on this system. Am I going to have to toss all this out and get a MAC??

Please........any comments or advise would be appreciated.

it could be, that your video clock in the capture card is asynchronous to the audio clock of your soundcard, thats bad luck.
Following method is not able to solve the problem with the dropped frames, but it can help you to synch audio and video I think:
in capture mode set capture - timing and then enable adjust audio clock...
This may help you. But remeber:the frames will be dropped as before, but you will have it synchronous I think. If this doesnt help you, please look into my guide

Hello Debackle,

If you have access to anther HD please install it in your system and capture on that disk. Do not use your system disk to capture.

You might also try Virtualdub as a capture program.

Last but not least. If you want to spend some additional bucks you could consider buying a second hand Fast AV Master capture card! The only disadvantage of this card that the hardware only supports Windows 98. But on the other hand you can use an old PC to capture video and audio. I have installed the AV master (which I bought at Media Mark for only 398 DM equals 180 dollar!) in an old Pentium 1MMX running at 233 Mhz. Added an additional HD of 10 Gigabyte to capture Video and Audio. At a compression ratio of 1 to 5 (Betacam quality) with the PAL resolution of 768 * 576 I have no drop frames and A/V is always in sync! This is due to the fact that the Fast AV Master has on-board audio and its using PCI busmastering to transfer the compressed MJPEG video and audio to the hard-disk. Image quality is superb!

Well, I solved one problem, but now encountered another.

Using ATI mm7.1 I can now capture hours of mp2 - NTSC 6mbs variable bitrate 720x480. And when I open the finished file in ANY file viewer, audio and video sync is perfect throughout the video.

Here in lies my latest grief. Using MyDVD (Software that came with my pioneer burner) to build the DVD will end up in a DVD with bad audio video sync that gets progressively worse as the video plays. The error is obviously occuring in the Demuxing / Transcoding sequence.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be would be further appreciated.

man i feel ya...been there(just last week ;P). Yeh well im starting off in the world of video capturing myself... Ive been on a quest to caputre a highend capture of bob the builder to svcd format(orginally i wanted divx). i too use the mulitamedia center 7.1. well the .mp2 i caputured was quit large for the quality...quality was good but the file was huge. The synch was perfect until i took to another format or to svcd. Svcd same thing as happening to me as to you. Actually even when i encoded to divx in the begging same deal. I looked through doom here and perform to synch operations...one envolving a prog and cool edit. NONE worked. Finally i said fuc it and gave up for a few weeks....well im back. The secret is....for some odd reason...capture with AVI_IO. vdub was working for me but it too gave me some synch issues for my audio bitrate in svcd.

I hope you got the space because capturing with the huffyuyv codec in uncompressed .avi is DEFIANTELY THE WAY TO GO.

First the quality leve of 15mbits in mmc7.1 does not give you great quality at all compared to what im doing now. I capture in avi_io wih huffyuyv....then applie filters with vdub...and encode to svcd the way mentioned at www.robshot.com. qualiy is amazing.
what i am struggling with now is a way to replicate my filers in vdub in .avs.

Also i need to figure out a way to get cce to encode on a timebased/cmd line option of sorts.

Utimately i want to capture with avi_io, then have it encoded to the first pass of the way robshot has posted at www.robshot.com all unattended. I dont think its possible but there has to be a way.

BIG NOTE 4 U. You could however have all this done unattended using nero to encode your captured .avi 4 you then burn it to disc....this could all be done while your are out with your children, or the women you soooo much love or even sleep.

Well to tell you the truth, this whole thing is really, and I mean REALLY beginning to pissss me off severely. I can't believe that here we are in the year 2002 - and we have to go through all these stupid asss steps just to make a bloody DVD!!!! I am not very technically versed when it comes to the actual mechanics of what goes on when capturing video, but for christ sakes, I can tape on a VCR for 50 hours straight if I had a cassette big enough, and there would be NO AUDIO sync. problems throughout the whole tape. And that's 30 year old technology!!! What the hell are they (code writers) doing to make capturing digital video so damned complicated????!!!! Absolutely astounding.

well in reality tape is much more sufficient...but damage's too easy. It's pretty much the the standard way of recording currently...well let's see what g. lucus is going to do first then we will find out. He makes some pretty crappy decision's but always set's a standard once every five years.
