In ac3 streams, the dialnorm and DRC metadata make sure the volume levels across different sources (different dvd's and broadcast) is more or less the same. However, as far as I know, other standards (mp2, aac, flac, etc.) do not have such an option.
My question is: how can I achieve the same effect on these formats, that is, make sure different flac/aac's have the same sound level.
The only way I could think of is to apply DRC/amplification before encoding, but that doesn't seem like a good way to preserve quality.
How do broadcasters tackle this problem?
