force film vs ignore pulldown

I ran a d2v with both options and parsed them. They report the same number of frames: 161524 for a presumed progressive film with soft pulldown (98.78% FILM reported for both at end of d2v). I don't see any interlaced intros or outros, just the film. This is a film from the 70s that seems to have not had anything modern added to it. In avspmod, for the forced film d2v it reports 161131/161132 frames at the end of the slider. For ignore pulldown d2v it goes to 161523/4. Is that because of frames dropped by dgindex when forcing film?

There is also a large discrepancy between running times with ignore pulldown being the more correct.

I can tell you what to expect from DGMPGDec, but I have no knowledge about avspmod.

If you do force film on a stream that is not exactly 3:2 soft pulled down, frames may be either added or deleted, depending on whether there is a excess or deficiency of flagged repeats. Most often some of the repeats are hard, or there is video, so there is a deficiency of repeats and frames will have to be deleted.

You can use the Parse D2V output to find the non-3:2 sections. Look for lines without a * (other than the first one in the file). Pay special attention to the start and end. Sometimes there is blackness as video.

I should have known it was the long sequence of blackness at the beginning and end of the movie and I just saw video type responded to these parts and parsing shows no asterisk next to them. I realized later I should have mentioned it.
