Hello. Few years ago I bought the X-Files DVDs. I converted them to my computer, so I could play the episodes on my PMP. The format I converted them to is AVI - XVid and MP3. Each episode is around 400 MB. Now I would like to convert them all to MP4, using x264 and Nero AAC. I don't like the sound quality of faac. Is there any app that could batch-convert (easily) about 80 GB (200 files) to MP4, using x264 as the video codec and Nero or Apple AAC (or perhaps FhG AAC) as the audio codec (I want HE-AAC)? And could you also please provide instructions on how to do it? I don't want to re-rip the DVDs (too difficult and time consuming), I want to easily convert the avi files to mp4 (lower video bitrate - comparable quality - smaller file size)...
Thanks!

You can use TX264. See here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=164606).

going from lossy format to another loosy will give you always worse quality than in first generation.

Yeah I know that.

Hey that TX264 is a great prgram, thanks to the autor!!
I just saved tens of gigabytes by transcoding my series collection to lower quality with HE-AAC sound!

Thanks for TX264, it's a really great program.
