This forum is the place where it lives. I haven't visited the main web for 2-3 years ago and I don't feel like I missed anything important that happened in video encoding since! :D

Hehe, funny. Yeah, get your tools from videohelp.com. As for the news, there's a separate News Forum here where you can find the news that users think important enough to post about.

IMO the site could use a CMS so the great guides and news from the forum can be transfered to the site, so I can send newbie friends there.

But for video enthusiasts, doom9 as it is now is "good enough"

I didn't even notice the 5-day waiy when I signed up.
I spend more time lurking and reading than I do contributing.
Not that I have much to contribute, and most questions I have, have answers somewhere deep in the threads.

I think before guides, I think there should be extensive wiki pages on the software.
Volunteered work, of course.

I think whenever there's some credible information on how a program works and why it doesn't work with certain versions or updates, there should be a wiki entry on that info, with citations, of course.

The eac3to wiki is a huge plus in learning how to use that program.
Certainly beats trying to search through the thread or use google search.

I think there's a plethora of valuable information that can be extracted from the developing threads to help newcomers find the answer before they even ask.
