MPlayer and external subtitles not showing with m2ts input

no subtitles are shown,.. (same happens with mplayer2 btw.)

If I use input.mp4 instead of input.m2ts everything looks fine.

-> Is this a bug in mencoder/mplayer or am I missing something that needs to be enabled when using a m2ts file as input?

Ps: converting the .srt to .ass and using:
"G:\Hybrid\mplayer.exe" "H:\Output\input.m2ts" -vf ass -fps 25 -vo direct3d -lavdopts threads=8 -sub "H:\Output\sampleTest.ass" -ass -mc 0 -nosound
does not help either,...

Ps.: converting the srt file to utf-8 or ANSI doesn't help either,..
