Hey guys,
How can 2 different versions of the same DTS-HD audio track (5.1) both be lossless?
Case in point. Blade 1 NL (Dutch) RCV release is half the bitrate of the new Warner U.S. release. ( 2046 kbps vs 4578 ).
DTS-MA suite doesn't have a br selection and I have to believe that the original studio master was available to both companies.

I know the new Warner U.S. release:
DTS-HD Master Audio English 4578 kbps 6.1 / 48 kHz / 4578 kbps / 24-bit
A 6.1 24 bit lossless can't have only a bitrate average of 2046 Kb/s (too near the core 1509 Kb/s).
Maybe is High Resolution (also DTS-HD but not lossless) or 16 bits.

The core is not bound to 1,509.75 kbps, so with a low enough bit depth, there is no reason why the bit rate can't be that low, especially when he never mentioned the channel layout.

Definitely HD, not HR tebasuna.
ramicio, there is also a Canadian release that's 5.1 @ 4377 Kbps.
I should have used that instead of the Warner, so that it would have been apples to apples.

Do both tracks have the same bit depth?

No, the lower one is 16 bit vs the other 2 @ 24 bit.
Would the lower bd and br make it poorer quality ?

Okay, if one is 16-bit that's why the bitrate is lower. To the second question, theoretically the 24-bit will sound better but you probably won't hear the difference.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it.
BTW, even though it's lossy, I always felt that it woul be difficult to hear the difference between a high br DTS-HR
vs a DTS-HD, both of the same bit depth.

You're right. Most people won't hear the difference just like most people probably don't hear the difference between the 640kbit AC-3 vs Dolby TrueHD.
