Hello all,

I hope you can clarify some confusion I have with libmp4v2.

Is the library purely for altering the mp4 file format, track listings etc or does it allow encoding and decoding of video files like dirac, webm, x264 etc?

The download/info page for libmp4v2 is http://code.google.com/p/mp4v2/

I have not been able to find any examples using libmp4v2 to encode or decode a video stream, if anyone knows of any please post the link.

Thanks in advance,

Hinchy

AFAIK, libmp4v2 is a library for (de)multiplexing MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) files.

While various video formats may be stored in an MP4 container (such as MPEG-4 ASP or MPEG-4 AVC aka H.264), libmp4v2 does not provide any video encoding or decoding functions by itself.

x264, for example, can encode video to the AVC/H.264 format and it is able to output the result in an MP4 container right away...
