View Full Version : Encoding in DTS, possible?

Is it possible to encode a movie in DTS, because DTS has higher bitrates than DD.
Unfortunately I haven't seen any audiofilter for DTS, yet.
(Are there any available ones?)
That's the reason why Windows Media Player can't play dts files.
Encoding could be possible but there seems to be no audiofilter for DTS so you can't hear sound & music or do I make a mistake?

Thanx for answering

if you mean DTS in AVi.. that is not possible, at least not atm and considering that the audio bitrate is as high or higher than the average video bitrate on a divx flick dts audio wouldn't make an awful lot of sesne because you'd either need twice as many CDs or the video quality would be quite horrible.

DTS on VCD and SVCD is neither possible, and only professional DVD authoring tools do support DTS and you need a full blown DTS capable software DVD player (WinDVD 3.x.. the most expensive version you can get, or PowerDVDXP... most expensive version again).. plus the DTS encoding software isn't exactly cheap

DD 5.1 is either 384kbit or 448kbit. DTS in comparison is 640kbit.

That's not exactly a huge increase in size so there might be occasions when it's viable. So why is it possible to mux AC3 with .avi but not DTS streams?

Well it might be possible if a tool existed that would extract the track:)

If you think about it, the DTS track would almost use an entire CD itself. At that point I'd just go out and buy another copy of the DVD;)

You can extract the track. (i.e. with SmartRipper)

You can even encode it with Nandub but you can't hear it because there's no filter for DTS available.

The size is approx. twice as big as the size of an AC-3 stream.

with AC3 encoders like the Nuendo plugin it's possible to encode DD with bitrates from 56 to 640kbps.

I'm confused, why resurrect this old thread? This is extremely obsolete information, look at the thread dates and do some searches on the tools available now.
