What is the most compatible -R or +R?

My youngest Daughter got a nice little 28 inch HDTV, with a built in DVD player, for her birthday. So now I am on a mission, at her command, to do some blu-ray to DVD conversions!

I know I could use DVD-5s, but for the extra couple of pennies she can have a much better picture on a DVD-9.

DVD+R DL is an older (and therefore probably much more compatible) format.

When it comes to media, I would definitely recommend Verbatim Advanced Azo DVD+R DL discs and nothing else. Buying high quality DL media is a must - the cheap ones usually end up as coasters.

DVD-R is the most compatible with the DVD Video format and as of today it's still the only one to be approved by the DVD Forum.

But any recent and decent player should be able to play both.

Theoretically, yes. But that applies mostly to DVD-R SL. I wouldn't be suprised if older/crappier DVD players couldn't play DVD-R DL because of its booktype. Thanks to the DVD+R (SL and DL) bitsetting function, we can set the booktype to "DVD-ROM" on them, thus making them more compatible with standalone players.
