I've searched but I can't really find what these new preset's actually do. I'm using the standard one right now which sounds great to me, but what's the difference between standard, extreme etc?

For full details visit the R3MIX forums (http://66.96.216.160/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl)

Basically you will want to use the standard preset for DivX rips and it should give you an average bitrate of 150 depending on the movie. --alt-preset standard now replaces --r3mix in regards to quality.

they offer

VBR , ABR, or CBR

quality

in all desired bitrates.

VBR

for high bitrates

--alt-preset standard/extreme/insane

(insane is highest possible quality for MP3/Lame, 320 CBR).

ABR presets:

--alt-preset 128

replace 128 by your desired bitrate !
it results to an verage bitrate very close to your specified, eg. here: 128 kbit/s

CBR

--alt-preset CBR 128

this results to exactly 128 kbit/s

Of course you can specify in ABR and CBR other bitrates, with CBR only standard MP3 bitrates from 32 up to 256 , (for 320 CBR: use insane !),
with ABR alt preset: even bitrates like 147 kbit/s can be specified !
