It is close to another new year (for Vietnamese, Chinese, and a bunch of other Asian countries), and I would like to wish Doom9 and all the blokes here--yes, even you western blokes--good health, much wealth, and many hardware and software toys to play with. Yes, it's true that we Asians don't wish "Happy New Year", because it's easy to be rich and happy, but not so easy to be happy and poor.

What year is know? Year of the _enter the animal of this year_? Does the new year depend on religion or what? Is it the same for China, Vietnam etc. Yes, those are serious questions. :)

Hahah no, not second thoughts, but when you're a minority, then you tend to think in terms of "us" first and "the rest of them" second.. it's a bit parochial, but it's no different than thinking in terms of West Coasters or or Noo Yawkers or fans of [insert name] sports team. I myself am a western bloke, of course, since I'm a naturalized Vietnamese-American.

For Vietnamese, it is the Year of the Horse. The Vietnamese zodiac are slightly different from the Chinese, but I think it's also the Horse for them. Not sure about other countries. It's the Lunar New Year, and is celebrated by many Asian countries. Hah we just had our New Year's celebration (just a family get-together with lots of food) and I am seriously pigged out. I think this means at least an extra hour on the treadmill for me.. <sigh> Heh may be it should be the year of the Pig.
