What is a good sharpener?

what's a good function for the sharpener?

If the source allows, then LSFmod can be a good sharpener, or SeeSaw can be a good sharpener, or Sharpen() can be a good sharpener, or MedianSharp can be a good sharpener, or WarSharp can be a good sharpener, or or or ...

If you are still targeting the abysmal quality in these (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1576036#post1576036) screen shots then any sharpener will do - like blur(-1.0).

As a nice side effect, the sharpener will enhance the visibility of the macro blocks you seem to like.

By the way - those screenshots (or whatever you'd call them, I'm kinda used to game terms) seem to use a custom quantization matrix.

Namely one that quantizes the shit out of everything that's not highly detailed.

Also keep in mind that when it comes to sharpening, less is usually more. People tend to overfilter a lot. Actually, in general most sources are fine already and would be best treated with *no* sharpening at all...

You might also want to consider posting an image of the source, if you want a bit more clear answers. (Heh.)

A static picture does not help. We need a well picked short video sample to be able to give more comprehensive advice than "use xy for clean sources and xy for noisy sources".

And yes, those screenshots look ugly, not in my dreams I would call this a decent encode, it's crap.

from a bluray full I encode it in a 720p, now from the 720p I would to encode in xvid

That's silly. You should start with your original. Post a sample from the original bluray.

I don't know how tu cut a .mkv with video in h264 anyway the output in xvid is really dirty (with lsmod())

Bluray disks have M2TS files, not MKV files. You can cut them with DGSplit. Why are you talking about MKV files?

beacause I can't see 1080p with my pc so i reduced the resolution to 720p. but the problem with filters is the same with DVD source
