Can someone help me capture PC sound?

I've been trying to record myself playing games on my PC, but both Camtasia and Fraps don't pick up any ingame audio.

Fraps does not let me set anything other than CD/Aux Monitor, and although Camtasia lets me set it to Wave out (which is what my soundcard seems to be using for sound), it says it can't set up to record PC sound.

I thought I'd ask on here incase anyone knows what I can do.

I'm using Windows XP SP3, and an M-Audio Revolution 5.1, which is on the latest update.

The only time I've had Fraps work is when I can select something like "Stereo Mix" (from my Turtle Beach) or "What You Hear" (from my Creative). In both those cases, ALL sounds from the computer audio are recorded.

The crappy onboard audio on my last machine didn't allow any such selection, so I could only record Line In, CD, Mic, ect. and I couldn't get game sound at all.

So why don't you use the CD/AUX jack then?

and one of these (cd/aux analogue cable... there's another "digital" cable with only two wires, which won't help you) :

Cut the RCA jacks from the cable stereo to rca cable above and one connector from the cable in the picture above ... tie the ground wire from both rca jacks (the wire that's connected to the ring of the rca jacks) to the black wire from the connector, and each of the two other wires (red and white) go to the signal wires of the rca connectors.

Adjust the out volume so that it won't clip and distort on cd/aux and you can now record what your sound card outputs and listen to it at the same time...

You could use just this Y-adaptor with a short double-male RCA patch cord and split the signal to speakers and the Line-In to the sound card.

If your audiocard allows it, why not create a graph to save the WAVE OUT to a file?
