Well I make actually big test on BluRay encoding with x264 (Guide for professional authoring with x264). For make that I compare with other H264 codec. Mainconcept H264 is really popular codec (Cinevison, DivX and certainely many other use SDK).

In the past, I had already check this codec. Anyway MC seem to have really progress with news options and improvements:
- Adaptative deblocking
- Wbpred and Wppred
- Quantisation Matrix
- Improved VBV quality
- 10 bits encoding (not for BR but new)

Someone have make test with these news options ... ???

It's gotten pretty good. The latest builds of Rhozet Carbon Coder / Harmonic ProMedia Carbon have a recent version of the MainConcept H.264 encoder that includes these settings, and quality has increased quite a lot.

Harmonic isn't using just the stock Main Concept code base anymore. They've merged in features from their broadcast encoder algorithms as well.

Very interesting. That's good to know, and may explain some strangeness I've noticed.

I never knew they developed their own algorithms in house, let alone had a separate broadcast encoder.

Rhozet didn't. Harmonic has a huge broadcast encoding business, and has since acquired Rhozet.

Interesting stuff :)
